Reflection on Chalie and the chocolate factory

Was the chocolate factory a really happy place? Yes, it was. In ESL class, we read the book called "Charlie and the chocolate factory." I used to watch movie before but didn't have any chance to read the book. By reading it, I have realized the book was really amusing.

Basically, there were five children who had got the golden tickets to enter the factory. Augustus was a young boy who loved eating candy. He even ate a lot of chocolates even in just one day. Veruca, who had endless desire to get something, was extremely rich that she could buy anything she wanted. Violet was a gum chewer-which meant the girl who always chewed gums wherever she went. Mike was a little boy who was crazy about video games. He also was violent since he indulged in violent games. Charlie, who received award and became a factory keeper. Moreover, there was the most important character in the story. Mr. Wonka was the owner the chocolate factory.

I would like to briefly summarise the story. There was a poor boy who was Charlie. He had to live with his parents and grand-parents. They had no enough money that all family was about to starve to death. One day, Charlie luckily picked up the money and bought the chocolate. Inside, there was a golden ticket. Charlie and his grandpa Joe started adventuring the factory.

I was pleased to read this book since I really liked the way Roald Dahl, who wrote this story, created those interesting characters. Moreover, it was fun for me to read because I like the way they spoke. They were very comical and fun. It was really interesting to read.

This coming winter vacation, I would like to try other Roald Dahl's fantasy book. She is an awesome writer.

Reflection of retelling tale

During the ESL course I have learned many myth stories. The story that I chose was "An Orphan Boy" and I needed to retell the story that I have learned. I believe the SLR that my project best showed is Think Creatively.

Making a story up I was reluctant to do since I prefer drawing to writing stories. Yet, while I was creating a story, I became more creative than ever and my concerns about writing was absolutely wrong. Moreover, trying to think about the story, which was "An Orphan Boy," I truly wanted to use strong and obvious words to describe the story. To do that I also needed to think imaginatively.

One thing that I should improve on was putting more characters in my tale. It was because I only had two characters, which might make the story boring. Next time, I would like to try to put more characters in it.

On the other hand, I had a great job to write a new story. My tale went step-by-step. It went really clearly that people could understand what I was trying to talk about. At the same time my story was not that predictable so people kept thinking what might be happen at the end of the story.

I exerted all my efforts to the story. If I have a chance to write a story again, I would try the other way to create the tales.

Sophie's Choice

Once upon a time, there was a girl whose name was *Sophie. She was really poor and had no family. One day, she saw a poster which was saying "The Pumpkin Food Contest." If a person got the first place in the contest, there was a prize which was huge money. She thought that this was a good chance for her to buy some food to eat and clothes to wear if she got the money. When she went there, lots of people waited to participate in the contest.

She was a little scared since she was not good at cooking food. While she was being worried about it, the master of the ceremony told everyone that people who took part in the contest needed to get pumpkins on the ground on the spot. And MC continued "Start!" Everybody ran to the pumpkins to choose the best one. She also ran for hers. There were many types of pumpkins. Some were looked very delicious and fresh but some were not. Of course most of the people chose the best ones but Sophie could not. Everybody took their own pumpkin except her. But she saw a pumpkin that seemed fine but there were lots of ants inside the pumpkin. She chose that one anyway. Everybody looked at hers strangely. When she arrived back home, she took a knife and decided to cut it down. Suddenly, the pumpkin got brighter and brighter. She realized that there was crystal clear liquid inside the pumpkin and it smelled something sweet. So that was why lots of ants were there. Anyway She picked the very right one to make pumpkin food.

On the contest day, she showed her pumpkin food that she had made with the sweet and honey-like liquid. The pumpkin dish that she made blew all the judges away since the taste was fantastic and beyond description. They had never eaten that kind of food before. Finally, she got the first place and could buy some food and clothes for herself. She would not forget that day ever and ever.

*Sophie means: Wise, Smart and Cleaver

Why Write ?

http://www.thelistproject.org/images/write-letter.gifWhy do people write? Talking is so much easier than writing, isn't it? Yet, when people say something, we can forget it very easily unless it is not important. But when you write, it keeps forever. Moreover, you can remember what you did long time ago since you wrote it when you were young. It is also important when you writing because it makes you think more and more. And it helps a lot.

My SLR progress today

During the ESL class, I am learning enthusiastically since sometimes I do not get what teacher says, I really try to ask and find it out. When I do my homework at my home, I truly enjoy and do my BEST on it. Moreover, I love it when teacher gives homework about writing. In fact, I really need to work on my writing. Writing homework is extremely good for me because it makes me think creatively and I can improve more!

On the other hand, I also have a thing that I need to improve more during the ESL class. I need collaborating constructively. In personal , I like to work by myself rather than work with other people. Needless speaking, I like to do something alone. Not just because I hate meeting people or talking with others. I DO love talking and meeting with others. Yet I like to do by myself. And it works for me.

Pandora Wordle

Those words above are very important vocabulary in Pandora story.
As you see, some words are really big and some are not since big words are more important than small ones.

'Pandora' is the biggest word because this is a keyword in the story.
I have a word 'curiosity' and it is also big since this story shows us how and why people have a curiosity.

Watching vocabulary above carefully, you see smaller words. It shows that those words are still key words but less important than big ones. For examples, I have a word 'Epimethius' on that picture and I make it smaller. The reason is that the name is mentioned in the story but is not a quiet important name compared to 'Pandora' or 'Curiosity'

Book Report Reflection

While I was preparing the book report project, I really enjoyed presenting my project. The book I chose was " I know what you did last summer" written by Lois Duncan. Actually, I didn't have any information about the book before I chose it. Later I realized that it was a mystery story and even a movie was released based on this novel. I thought it was rather good that I didn't have any knowledge about the book because I could more concentrate on the plot and characters of the story. It made me scary but thrilled. After I read the book, I searched on Internet about the movie because I just wondered how different the book and the movie. At first, I guessed the movie script would be the same as the original book but my guess was totally wrong. It was EXCEEDINGLY different between the book and the movie. Even the names of the main characters were different. Also in the book they just left the dead boy on the road and ran, but in the movie they wrapped the boy's body and threw into the river. However, I thought it would be interesting to watch that movie.

My activity was creating a new ending of the story. I used to draw cartoon or make a new story when I have a free time. I love making new stories. So it was very enjoyable to do the activity. One thing that I did really good during my presentation was that I made my classmates focused on my speech. I can tell this because they seemed very interested and concentrated on the presentation instead of feeling bored. On the other hand, I had some problems. During the presentation, I was so nervous that I skipped some important parts of the story and some of my pronunciation was inappropriately. Surely I needed more practice and practice. That is the best way to make me improved, confident, and not nervous.

My SLR was thinking creatively on this project since I made a poster. On this poster, I typed words and made them BIGGER so that classmates can see that clearly as well as easily. Moreover, they could follow where I was explaining when I read the story on the poster.

If I have a chance to read another book, I would like to choose warm and touching story. The book that I chose for the project was really scary and complicating. So I want to try a totally different story next time.

My Precious Memories

I have lots of things to tell you about my beautiful memories. Some of them make me smile and happy but some of them make me sad. However I am pretty sure that my story is surely going to be fun.

One of the memories that makes me warm is my pet's pictures. I used to keep various pets since I love to take care of pet animals. One day my father brought me a puppy which was Schnauzer. It was IMMENSELY small and EXCEEDINGLY cute. I really loved her and decided to take care of her with all my heart. We had have a great time together. She is such a cute and well-behaved dog. I fed her delicious food and we sometimes took a walk. Few years later, I was sorrowful when I heard I need to go to Malaysia. I wanted to take my pet but my parents told me it was not a good idea and might cause annoying problems because Malaysia is very hot. Unfortunately, we made up our mind to leave the pet in Korea. Now I really miss her since I love her so much. People, who used to keep their pets and love them so MUCH, might understand me. I never forget her untill the last day of my life.

My second memory that makes me still excited is airplane tickets and pictures of other countries that I visited. Whenever I go to other countries, I always take pictures and collect tickets that I visited like museums and concert halls. So that I can remember easily where I visited. I went many countries when I was young. I went to Hong Kong, China two times, Australia, USA, Japan and Malaysia. I am happy and excited as I see those pictures and tickets. When I grow up, I think I would be very proud of myself. I will not lose my precious pictures and tickets !

As you know well, everybody has their own valuable memories. In personal, it is great to have one. When I am in a bad mood or feel stressful, I usually think of those wonderful days that I had a fun and time that I enjoyed. And it surely makes me feel much better. Also I make a plan from my beautiful memories. Since I have good experiences visiting other countries, I have a dream to go to other countries that I have never been to. Actually I want to travel Europe someday. My another plan is to go back to Korea this winter vacation to see my puppy that already became an adult dog. I am so looking forward to seeing her, and we are going to make another beautiful memories together!

Orphan Boy

Once there lived a lonely old man who looked up the sky every night. One day, he realized that one star has gone. He became sorrow. Soon, he met a young man whose name is Kileken. Since he was an orphan and the old man was childless, they decided to be friends. Kileken did a lot of house chores to care of cattle. He did extremely well so the old man got surprised and wanted to know the secret. Yet the boy never told it. Although drought came and no grass to eat for cattle, Keileken made them fatter. So the old man ask him the secret but the boy replied "A secret known to two is no secret." The wall and shadow lured the man to find the secret by himself. One night, he followed the boy and saw him make the sunrise. The grass grew and the cattle ate them. Suddenly Kileken turned around and saw the old man. The grass was gone and drought came again. The old man became loonier and it was too late to regret. The orphan boy, Kileken became a star which was the planet Venus. It appeared at dawn in the east and at night fall in the west.

I truely love my name !

As you know, everyone has his or her own original name which means I also have mine. I would like to share the story of my name since I have lots of things to tell you about it !

My name is Suh (Seo) Hyun Hwang. As you know Korean names has meaning at its each letter. In my first name, 'Suh' means "realizing dreams" and 'Hyun' means "Work widely." Therefore my name Suh Hyun means "Realizing my dreams and work widely."

According to my parents, my name was from my grandmother who was from my father's side. When I was born, my parents lived with my grandmother together. She wanted to give my name by herself. My name is not that pretty but whenever I see my friend whose name is really strange and unfamiliar, I always think that my grandmother chose good one for me. Actually my friend has had a hard time because people easily teased her ugly name and made her grieved. Yet it is fortunate that she is a really active and outgoing girl, so she did not care much about what other people saying.

In personal, there are no advantages or disadvantages of my name since my name is one of the most common names in Korea. It is not fantastic or ugly name either. I rarely got teased from my friends and I do not have any bad experience but sometimes I got teased because of my last name. My last name is "Hwang" sounds the same as the animal ox in Korean. "Hwang so" is an ox. Before I came to Malaysia, some of my classmates in Korea used to call me like "hi ox, what's up?" However I never took that seriously or got hurt. We did it just for fun.

Frankly speaking, Suh Hyun is still okay to be called but I have wanted a cuter name. It is because as I said above, my name is the very common one in Korea. However I like my Korean name since it is from my grandmother who has loved me so much. She tried and thought really hard to give me a good name. On the other hand, I have an English name "Hannah." I LOVE my English name, too. My mother named me Hannah from the Bible. Hannah was a very sincere and truthful lady. She also prayed heartily and had a wonderful relationship with God. I like her character very much as well as her name.

I think I am very luck to have two names, Suh Hyuh and Hannah. I like both names. Those two names also have their own special meanings. So I thank my grandmother and my mother for giving me wonderful names. With these special names, I can feel how much they love me and that makes me so special person!

Six goals for Hannah

I would like to share my goals with you. I have 6 goals that I want to achieve at school and outside of school.

First I am going to tell you 3 goals at school.

The first goal is Getting out of ESL

I really want to improve my English as soon as possible.
The very first few days of this semester I happened to go to Humanity class instead of ESL since I got the wrong schedule from MS office. When I took the class, it was challenging but I could understand clearly what the teacher was talking about. However, some other parts I was confused and it was a little hard for me to understand. Now I came back my original ESL course but still remember the humanity class. I have a confidence that I can join Humanity class if I try really hard. From now on I will study English real hard and do my best.

The second goal is Getting good scores in every subject.

This year is a new start for grade 7. I really like my teachers and classmates in every subject. I will concentrate on the subjects during the classes and do my homework happily but attentively. If I do not know what is going on in the classes, I will ask my classmates or teachers. Because I know that is the best way I can learn fast.

The last goal is Making more friends who come from other countries.

I would like to close to my new classmates. One thing is good about ISKL is that there are all kinds of people from all different countries. If I just stayed in Korea I would never experienced this kind of wonderful chances to meet diverse people in the world. I want to communicate with other people who are from different cultures and the way they talk or think. All people have different ways to think according to their custom. We must understand other people and respect their different ways of thinking. I want to make many different friends and hang out with them. Most importantly I want to communicate effectively with them.

Now I am going to tell you the other 3 goals for my vision.

The first goal is Reading as many books as I can.

I TRULY like to read books since it makes me smarter. when I was young, I did not understand why people kept saying to children READ BOOKS. I just thought it is boring ! However, now I realize that it is pleasing thing to do. Reading books is really important. It makes us to think a lot and expand our knowledge. Besides we can increase new vocabulary words. If I have more free time, I will not play or do unnecessary things. Read, Read, READ !

The second goal is Improving my art taste.

I greatly love to do art. Since I was young, I have wanted to be an interior designer. I like to create new things as I have many ideas to express. If I walk and see furniture, I carefully watch it and notice which one is good or bad. I usually see and read magazines. As you know when we see the magazines, they show all kinds of furniture and give us idea about furniture. I watch it closely, choose good one, and draw it in detail in my own sketchbook. Then I put all furniture that I choose and arrange the drawing in my bed room. That is really fun and it helps me a lot to think about furniture . If I have a chance, I want to take the interior design class in Malaysia.

The last goal is Learning how to cook very well.

When I return to school, occasionally my parents are not at home . I want to do cooking by myself. I heartily want to learn other countries' food too. My family like to eat Asia food -Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese. I want to make it and give to my parents. My mother cooks very well. She usually invites people over our house and share delicious food with guests. Sometimes my mother needs to make a lot food but most of the time she cooks and prepares alone since my father is always busy and I do not know how to do it. If I learn how to cook, I want to help my mother and do it TOGETHER !

These are my wonderful 6 goals that I want to achieve. All goals are really important to me. I hope I can make it and enjoy while I try to do my best !

Spring Break Reflection

At the beginning of my spring break, I was very bored because I did not go anywhere, not even to a shopping mall. I also had lots of HOMEWORK to do and private lessons to take. I felt a lot of pressure. Strangely enough, I did not watch TV or play any computer games while I was home. It was not interesting to me anymore. Instead, I listened to music and drew some pictures. I also chatted with my friends on the Internet. They also did not go anywhere. I felt sorry for them. MISERY LOVES COMPANY!!! Anyway in the middle of the break I did a few exciting things, like reading books and playing the violin.

In fact, I love to read books, especially Shakespeare. His stories are sometimes very exciting and very tragic. One of my favorite books is ONE MID SUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, which is funny and romantic. But this spring break, I did not read Shakespeare. I read other books, CHARLOTTE'S' WEB, TWILIGHT, THE FAMOUS FIVE, THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN. I read five books! Among them, TWILIGHT and THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN were the BEST.

TWILIGHT was not only interesting but also scary. Edward, a vampire, and Bella, a seventeen-year-old high school girl, first meet in biology class. She finds out that Edward acts or speaks in strange ways. So she carefully researches him and realizes that he is a vampire and only consumes animals' blood. Although she knows that he is a vampire, she falls in love with him. Whenever she is in dangerous situation, he always rescues her as he is stronger than ordinary people. Eventually, she tells him that she wants to be a vampire but Edward rejects it.

I enjoyed the book very much. I like this kind of story because it is romantic as well as scary. If I had more time during the break, I would have read another series by Stephenie Meyer, the author of TWILIGHT. Her new serieses are ESCAPE, BREAKING DAWN, and NEW MOON. I'll probably read those books this coming summer vacation.

Another exciting thing was playing the violin with my mother. We played 'Cannon D major' composed by Johann Pachelbel, which is not that difficult for my mother. I have played the violin since I was six years old, but my mother has played it for only two years. Technically speaking, she is a beginner. So I chose a simple piece and we had a good time playing together. My mother and I also like to listen to classical music. Her favorite composers are Chopin and Tchaikovsky. She used to say that if she could be an elementary school girl again, she would try hard to be a violinist. Whenever she said that I always answered "Mom, I am sorry. It is too late!" Although I often tease her, I love my mom very much because she and I have many things in common. As such, we spent a lot of time together. When I grow up I would like to be just like my mother.

Civilization of my country : KOREA

There are many things to talk about Korean civilization. I will tell you few things which I think is the most interesting.
Firstly,
Writing: Korean Alphabet - Hangul
Korean people use their own alphabet called Han gul. It is one of the most efficient alphabet in the world. King Sejong made Han gul in 1444 during Chosun Dynasty (1393-1910). There are 24 letters, 14 consonants - ㄱ,ㄴ,ㄷ,ㄹ,ㅁ,ㅂ,ㅅ,ㅇ,ㅈ,ㅊ,ㅋ,ㅌ,ㅍ,ㅎ and 10 vowels -ㅏ,ㅑ,ㅓ,ㅕ,ㅗ,ㅛ,ㅜ,ㅠ,ㅡ, ㅣ.
Secondly, Korean art is very beautiful
Arts:
Korean art is famous for pottery, calligraphy and paintings. One of the famous paintings is Gumgangsan painted by Jeong Son(1676-1759). During this time, many painters traveled the countryside and painted many beautiful landscape. In other paintings, they drew birds, flowers, fish, and so on.
Thirdly, let me tell you about Korean religion
Religion:
In Korea, we have freedom of religion. There are four major beliefs: Confucianism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam. However, there is no freedom of religion in North Korea. About 29% of Korean people are Christians, 23%, Buddhists and 46% no religion. Most of the Muslims are foreign people from Muslim countries. We also have festivals: Christmas and Buddha’s birthday.

Fourthly, We have government in Korea.
Government:
All civilization have a system of government.
We also so have government which is "Lee Mung Bak"
He is a president.

Amazing Christmas '_'*

My crazy vacation was pretty COOL !!!!!
In Fact, I am Korean but now I am living in Malaysia. At first I didn't know about Malaysia, but now I get to know
about Malaysia.

During the vacation, I went to PORT DICKSON.
Before I visited there, I did not even know where Port Dickson is. However, when I went there..it was really beautiful that it took my breath away.

The hotel made me crazy because the hotel was not built on the ground, just like other houses. The hotel was over the SEA! so I could easily SEE the sea, beach, lots of fish and turtles. And also the washroom was so fantastic!. When I took a shower, I could see the sea water right next to me. I was kind of scared as well as interested.

The Next moring, I got up a little earlier and went to the beach. I walked, played with the sand, and swam. In the afternoon, I went toplay golf with my parents. My parents love to play golf. The field was OKay that day, no rain, no storm, it was easy for me to play. I kind of enjoyed it

After playing golf we had late lunch at the hotel. It was amazing that there was an animal farm near the restaurant. There were peacoks, birds, chicken, rabbits..etc. I did touch the rabbit and it felt so soft and when I lifted the rabbit, it was light than I thought.

My vacation was nice and beautiful.
I want to go there again if I have a chance!! ^_^*
